Pros

POET is probably one of the best places to work in Jay County, Indiana—though that’s more a reflection of Jay County than POET. If you’re looking for a place where you’ll quickly develop a wide range of technical skills, this is the spot. The plant runs hard, and you’ll learn fast because you have to in order to keep up. If nothing else, it will make you marketable. Also, brace yourself for the canned corporate response that will appear below this review telling me how much they “value my feedback.” It’ll be quickly followed by a handful of glowing 5-star reviews from corporate office staff to bury this one deep enough that potential candidates will need a backhoe to find it.

Cons

Jay County’s limited industry means wages trail the market, and Poet job responsibilities expand faster than job titles or paychecks. “Performance punishment” is part of the culture—do well, and you’ll be rewarded with more work. Expectations vary wildly depending on who you know and how well you navigate internal politics. In over a decade, the facility has been fully staffed exactly once—and only for two weeks. Turnover is constant. Production routinely runs at nearly double its design capacity on a skeleton crew. There is zero standardized training, so most people learn by firefighting (sometimes literally). Problems often sit ignored until they explode late on a Friday afternoon, just as management and maintenance are walking out the door. The technicians that make it beyond 90 days here become extremely skilled—just not valued.

Thank you for taking the time to share your perspective — and for more than a decade of dedication to POET. We truly appreciate the expertise and grit that our plant teams bring every day, knowing the work can be both rewarding and demanding. We hear you on the challenges around staffing, training, and workload balance. We’re continuing to invest in better tools, training programs, and communication to support our team members and help every plant thrive. POET’s culture is built on innovation, hard work, and heart, but also on listening and improving. Feedback like yours helps us improve for the people who power POET’s success. Your note about a “canned corporate response” made us smile, because it’s tough not to sound that way. But here’s the truth: your feedback matters, we’re listening, and we’re using it to keep improving. So yes, we value your feedback — and not in a canned way, but in a we’re actually reading this and talking about it kind of way.

Missing the mark for team members

Pros

Company mission to protect the environment is meaningful. There are some opportunities to contribute.

Cons

So many internal challenges. Unequal treatment and policies between locations. No accountability so pay is based on how much you are liked. Team members feel unsupported. Very little training and development. No aligned goals from execs. No long term planning. Little transparency with mostly top-down communication. High turnover ignored by senior leadership. Many areas are like the blind leading the blind. Beware of job postings. They say "culture is king" but it's a culture of control. Not safe to speak your mind. Values are teamwork, communication, and checking egos at the door but senior leadership does the opposite. And Christian values?? Belligerent, demeaning, and offensive communications from the highest levels of leadership. Hypocritical and demoralizing.

Pros

The people are awesome to work with at POET - very strong culture. Total compensation package is very generous with great benefits and bonus programs.

Cons

This is a fast paced environment - decisions are made quickly without a lot of bureacracy; which can be intimidating to some.
