Very Good Overall

Pros

Work environment is good, employees seem to enjoy there work for the most part and are willing to proved mentoring or guidance. Management is mostly very good even at the highest levels, a few bad apples have come and gone (as with any company). POWER is employee owned and ran by Engineers at the highest corporate levels and that really goes a long ways to making solid, steady and economic decisions for the company in the employee's best interest. There are plenty of opportunities and carrier paths for climbing the latter presented to employees who are steady with there work and continue to grow in their field. POWER is also very flexible with hours worked when needed. For example getting in late on Monday due to a family emergency can be made up by working late a few other evenings that week or on the weekend. Management is very flexible in these circumstances. Overtime is compensated for in most production positions--that in of itself is a huge benefit.

Cons

Becoming an owner (being allowed to purchase stock) is not well defined--a list of requirements exists but it is quite vague. It appears that once these requirements are met a committee of owners meets to discuss who is allowed into the club or not and the final decision is somewhat subjective. Some employee's are allowed to telecommute (work out of there home office), but approval for this is made on a case-by-case basis with no criteria--completely subjective. It is assumed by some employee's that the decision to allow someone to telecommute is based upon how valuable the employee is to the company or who he or she has good relationships with in management.

Used to be great, but now going downhill

Pros

Loved the friendly team atmosphere, everyone helped each other, project managers actually worked with you on a daily basis - back in the day. There is a lot of flexibility if you need it, but many people are afraid to take advantage of it now in case they seem to be taking advantage, in general.

Cons

Team atmosphere has gone from great to non-existent. No communication between offices, between managers and staff, between departments. Not sure what PMs do anymore except point fingers when things go wrong (usually because they are no longer around/don't bother managing their own projects, but leave that to others who already have their own work). PMs no longer work with the team and are usually MIA without responding to email for days at a time (and longer). They expect people to do "out of scope" work to make clients happy, but don't bother to budget for it, feigning ignorance when their project goes over budget, which is when the finger-pointing begins. But since the Good Ol' Boys can do no wrong, the people on the team take the blame. There is literally no guidance or standards on how to become promoted from one level to the next; they tend to refrain from promoting specifically so labor costs look competitive on proposals. Morale is rock-bottom in some offices, but there is no real concern for or interest in offices outside of Idaho.
