Leadership is lacking

Pros

Pockets of management within the business unit are kind and progressive, allowing flexible hours and generally decent work/life balance.

Cons

“One PPG” is a joke—the company overall is completely siloed. Too many people have worked for the company their whole lives and mediocrity persists throughout. Bad employees just seem to be moved into other positions or business units, not let go. Poor leaders with no experience outside of the company have come into positions of power based on length of service and relationships with upper leadership.

Pros

I had a great people to work with at the local level. Great management at the local level. Company has strong product portfolio. Company car, expense account. Decent health care - but it’s expensive. Plenty of autonomy to call on any customers you can sell to; not limited by geographical boundaries. Corporate culture is more laid back than the biggest competitor (but is trending in that direction). Can be a fun place to work!

Cons

PPG is a company with an identity crisis. Upper management, including the CEO, appear to be clueless about their customer base. It seems like the only experience anyone in upper management has had selling anything to anyone was in a marketing class they had to take during their MBA, roll playing in a classroom setting to their classmates. None of them appear to have any real world experience or hands on knowledge. Constant change in senior management so the goals and direction are always changing. Compensation plan is, by far, the worst in the industry. Health care plans are overpriced.

Pros

I can’t think of a single one!

Cons

Where to start? They give you so much busy work- they clearly don’t trust us to do our job. The BS busy work take us away from actually doing what makes the company money. The position feels like you are an hourly employee VS salary. (I think technically we ARE hourly). The company car is not a benefit to me. They charge you for it. Yes, I pay for my company vehicle. Overall the job is hugely underpaid for the amount of work that I do. Also- I haven’t punched a time clock since I was 18, but yet here I am at 45 years old punching Kronos.
