Pros

Fantastic coworkers who are smart and dedicated to their work. Lots of opportunities to learn from one another and collaborate on areas of interest. Employee growth and development is encouraged and supported. If you ask for help with certifications, classes, etc. you will receive it. There is a consistent effort around development planning and sharing of knowledge and resources. Culture of feedback and continuous improvement. There is open dialogue between peers and managers about performance. Feedback is timely and targeted. Products and services do not go stale and undergo improvement efforts regularly to make them better for the business and the customer. Competitive pay and benefits. Healthcare, dental, 401k match, EAP, PTO and competitive salary with an annual review process in place. Good bonuses based on company performance. Have never had to ask for a raise but have received multiple. Focus on results and people. There are ongoing efforts to encourage work/life balance. People are engaged and spend time with their coworkers. What is best for the business is weighed with what is best for staff and generally results in a fair balance.

Cons

Distribution of decision-making power. It’s a family business and most decisions require approval. At times communication is unclear from leadership to staff. The leadership team seems to try to be proactive in communicating changes but aren’t always successful. Busy periods can be very busy. This has improved with the leadership team’s initiatives around capacity and production planning but there is little ‘down time’. Calendars are often full and deadlines can be tight.
