The main issue I have is that they will promote project managers and engineers like their lives depend on it. Every month it seems like there’s another VP. They hire kids straight out of school and promote them every year. Not on their work ethic or knowledge. But based on their anniversary. By the time they are E3 this kids think they know it all and they have some sort of authority. Example: I’m not an engineer but I’ve been doing this for over 15 years. And I was merely trying to help and educate an E3 I was working with and explain a city standard to her. She told me not to disrespect her authority. And then goes to the PM and tells him she doesn’t want to work with me anymore. She looked like she felt pretty stupid when I explained to the PM the situation and told her that I was right. And that she can learn from people that have been doing this longer than her.

There was a massive amount of turn over starting in April 2020 because of preemptive layoffs due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The layoffs really messed with the team dynamics and have caused a lot of additional employee turnover among people that saw competent coworkers and friends being let go prematurely. I’m sure PD will continue to be a great company to work for as they recover, but the company culture has definitely taken a hit.
