Pros

No commute, flexible work environment, and ability to contribute is high if you work hard enough. But, if you are looking for a place with a 9-5 job where you can scoot out the door here like clockwork, you can do that too.

Cons

Management of business units is very inconsistent, therefore resulting in very different work experiences for employees who hold the same position. We have also lost some of our innovation culture, and a lot of the employee base seems to be very content just treading water.

Pros

MTV Networks has an outstanding reputation, first and foremost, and I mean this from a resume perspective. I've had numerous employers, network contacts, and recruiters reach out to me based on this job alone--even if the actual work I performed was not as impressive as some of the other things I've done in my career. I think it always helps, whether you want to go work at a startup or go back into the corporate game one day, and I would have to say to make the most of your time while you are there, networking and forming connections. As far as the salary goes, and I know everyone hears different things, I think the salary was pretty fair. The freelance rates are actually quite good I feel and certainly competitive with the industry. From a big media company perspective, I'd say they are right in the middle with Disney probably worse paying, and News Corp slightly better, but again, I don't have salaries for the entire organization, just myself, my friends, my employees and what recruiters tell me. The company is pretty fun overall, and relaxed. There is a good family atmosphere and a culture of promoting from within. The benefits are pretty solid. There are discounts are retailers, and occasional free tickets, and music and other swag. Good cafeteria as well (at the Time Square location).

Cons

It's a big place, and as such, it's tough to make a serious difference. You're part of the corporate machine, and if you like stability and anonymity then it's not so bad, but if you want to make a difference and feel like your work has a major impact on the organization, it's just not gonna happen with that many people. They could also be better about training and getting people with serious skills. They are lacking for sure in many areas talent-wise, and there are a lot of people that hold positions based on seniority and not necessarily skill-sets. It's a good and bad thing, because they maintain in some ways a family culture and promote from within, but this can have serious consequences in the competitive environment that we are in today and how quickly things change.

Pros

Great people all around. Working on very interesting content across the board. Fun place to work given the dynamic nature of the work and people. Friends and family can almost always associate with one of the MTV Networks brands, so having conversations about what you work on is always engaging. Generally pretty good hours and people are very reasonable and polite when working together.

Cons

Can often be slow to get projects accomplished or completed. Would be great to get more guidance and direction from senior management. Time Square Location is definitely a downside. Too many tourists when trying to get lunch.
