Pros

- Great people - Work/Life balance (though this depends on the team) - Good intentions - Soon-to-be new office

Cons

- Priorities are constantly shifting and everything is a top priority - An extreme focus on profitability to the detriment of the Development and Product teams - Leadership seems to be disconnected from Product and Development which results in a lack of support from the highest level - Teams are constantly overworked, burnt-out, and not receiving the additional resources they need - Depending on your team, on-call requirements can be quite excessive due to the fragile nature of the application - Attrition is very high. Lots of knowledge is walking out the door which makes it hard for teams to do their jobs and results in few people truly having in-depth knowledge about the application

Thank you sincerely for sharing your thoughts. We have been on a rapid growth path and more recently have taken a pause to transform and work on addressing some of our resulting opportunities including but not limited to enhanced quarterly planning, increased communication and collaboration, work-life balance and total rewards . You have brought forward some meaningful feedback and we would love to chat more with you – both the leadership team (most especially our new CTO who has been meeting with everyone and likely by now has met with you as well), as well as People & Culture and encourage you to reach out to us people@paybyphone.com.

Very negative environment

Pros

Some good people in the company, well resourced company that is frequently happy to throw money at problems

Cons

Very negative environment with unrealistic expectations and little or no direction or training. My manager worked so many hours that they seemingly couldn't think straight let alone work with us on a coherent plan for our team (there was a sense in my team that planning never went further than the following week). What initially seemed like a positive environment (usual tech co trimmings of snacks and games etc) was soon dashed and it became clear that there are a lot of disgruntled staff members and some quite sour relationships between different teams. Turnover (terminations and resignations) across the business seemed quite high but particularly in finance. The commercial viability of the business is probably questionable unless the product evolves significantly. Lastly, there were some management behaviours that I wasn't comfortable with around the manner in which some staff members were spoken to (reported to HR).

Pros

Depending on the team, can get away with coasting as long as you "look" like you're doing work Snacks Yaletown location

Cons

lack of alignment at all levels hesitates to stand out from the crowd- takes too long to make decisions Technical debt is a huge mess- Development & Product teams aren't on same page Lack of strategy for the future of the company - it's a big mess Is all talk- says one thing and doesn't deliver Feel defeated working here- looking for new work not a modern organization
