      PayPal - fun place to work but not the best career advancement if you are not in product marketing or engineering

      Pros

      The people are great. Some of the smartest and most passionate that I've ever met.

      Cons

      Advancement is difficult if you are in the Program Management Office (PMO). With the PMO being decentralized, it's almost impossible to be promoted unless there's a reorg. Since you are managing one business unit (BU) it's hard to take on additional responsibilities outside of your BU.

      Pros

      Lots of good people, but frequently in inconsequential positions

      Cons

      Too many incompetent people in key positions. Too much terriorialism and an "us versus them" attitude between different groups. Too many over-hyped projects that don't add to the bottom line

      Pros

      Having PayPal on your resume opens doors, and some fine people work there. Good if you do want to work hard in terms of effort but do not want to work too hard in terms of being innovative, creative, and exciting.

      Cons

      Remarkably entrenched in conventional organizational concepts for a company of this caliber, and remarkably slow to move to innovate, preferring instead to maintain the existing status quo because of the businesses growth rates.
