      Great environment, but lack of advancement opportunities.

      Pros

      The people working for Pearson are typically educated and professional. Since it is a publishing company you find a fair number of women working there. The environment is professional, but less corporate than other big companies. The company tries to offer work/life balance by offering back up child care as well as family leave act.

      Cons

      There seems to be a lack of advancement opportunities, and many departments would rather have you work a lot of hours instead of hiring the necessary staff. Hard to get appropriate salary raises when needed, so if you start off with a low salary it will be hard to catch up. I have heard of people leaving, just to come back a year later and make $20-$30 K more. As managers are usually super busy and over-worked, performance appraisals and mentoring of employees seem to suffer.

      Pros

      flex hours, working from home, take comp days (for overtime) are all well supported by the management team i know. many jobs have a very relaxed schedule.

      Cons

      politics are too important. some (many) people have been in the company for too long and don't care anymore. This is not good for careerly ambitous people. By the time someone finally survives/climbs to the top/upper class, he/she may be too "old" or have changed too much and doesn't remember how to motivate regular working bees any more. The capable and very active people usually only make a temporary stop here.
