Disappointing and Unethical

Pros

There are so few. It did feel good knowing the company was caring for NICU babies and maybe something you did contributed to that. But if you work in the office you don't get to see the patient outcomes, so for admin staff the pros of working at MEDNAX are few and far between.

Cons

Never in my life have I worked for such an unethical organization. Executives who protect each other, don't want anyone to speak up unless it's to kiss their behinds, and would rather the most talented people walk out the door if it means they have to admit they could or should have been doing things differently for a long time. They'll bring in consultants to "fix" things but nothing gets fixed. Instead, tons of money is spent and people lose their jobs to be able to afford the consulting bills. Every few months someone in the C-suite decides millions of dollars need to be "found" somewhere, so cuts start to happen. Yet these same executives continue getting salary and equity increases as people around them lose their jobs. You get promoted for being back-handed and incompetent, so right now the organization is being led by the people that gossiped the most, tarnished their colleagues' reputations and didn't have the guts or the competence to speak up when they knew the wrong decisions were being made. If you need a job, by all means go work for MEDNAX. A job is a job. But if you're looking for a career and think you'll actually have the opportunity to grow and learn, you'd be better off literally anywhere else.

Pros

Babies of course! Friendly hospital environment. Doing a job that is important.

Cons

Can’t make a living with this job, which is so sad. People would stay for years and years, but since it is so few hours, no benefits and low hourly rate, this is used as a temporary job. I’m sure the cost of training constantly and the drain it puts on the coordinator who has to do all the interviews, hiring, training and scheduling would be more than offset by hiring full time screeners. Everyone would win!!

Pros

Short commute to work. Cafeteria was convenient before they closed and replaced it with expensive food trucks.

Cons

Toxic environment alert! The company is sinking under the weight of its all-around disorganization, poor fiscal practices and poor management. It's not what you know, it's who you know that determines your career path. Nepotism is a flagrant problem that will eventually disrupt your health, workplace satisfaction and professional growth... and it is the main reason why I chose to leave. There is little to no room for growth. If you're fortunate enough to wrangle a transfer to another department, it will more than likely be lateral regardless of the level of complexity of the new position... which means you will be doing a ton of work for well below your pay grade, so when you do choose to leave, it will difficult to find another job at a commensurate salary level. I worked here for 3 years believing things would get better; they didn't. Bad career move - I set myself back professionally at least 10 years. Stay away if you value your career!
