Some good people, but limited by small thinking

Pros

Many good people; honest and ethical culture; great agency structure; innovative CEO and Sr. Leadership; solid branding with Rugby; nice HQ; great focus on top producers; good connection to top agency leaders.

Cons

Change averse. Period. "The emperor has no clothes" mindset...Title and tenure mean more then results; severely limited by small thinking of some senior leadership; many of the HQ people can't relate to the field and/or people from the field; next to impossible for outside people to survive-- it almost feels life they look for outside people to fail. Sad disconnect between what the HQ thinks the field needs/wants, what they actually need/want, and how to deliver on these needs/wants. NO leadership development; NO core skills training for new agents; NO accountability for some HO groups-- budgets, metrics, ROI, etc.

Pros

The people in the company are great to work with! It was a great experience meeting tons of knowledgable co-workers. The company provides tons of events for their home office employees that make working there even better.

Cons

The growth opportunities are limited within the company. Once you are in the company you can move around into different departments, but if you want to move up in your own it is not done for many years put in.

Pros

Most of the people are nice. Pleasant environment. Nice Gym and lunch area. Plenty of parking.

Cons

I worked in customer service and the computer systems are very outdated. They are not very user friendly. Management does not seem to be interested in spending any money to upgrade the computer systems. I do not believe there is much of a future for this company, as most consumers have not heard of Penn Mutual compared to their industry piers. In addition, management does not seem to listen to their largest asset, their employees for ideas and suggestions. A lot of dead wood in management.
