Pros

They have some of the nicest people I have ever worked with. the work environment is great and I actually enjoy going to work everyday. The company has a great collection of technology (but aging, more on that later), and it is a great place for anyone who just started their careers or just want an over view of the field. The company is running lean (either good or bad, you can decide) so an individual often has to wear many hat at once and got to explore different fields. Again, this is great for someone just started their careers.

Cons

Aging technology- If you work at R&D, you will be greatly disappointed, because there are little to no innovation in the company. PerkinElmer grow by buying a technology (company), shut it down and milk the sales on that specific technology. The logic is real R&D is expensive. In my years with PerkinElmer, I haven't seem anything that's ground breaking. When a technology got old, they just stop releasing the new version, or just release version with small update (i.e. adding a touch screen and changing the color) Direction- It's all about money. The stock is doing well in wall street, if you are a shareholder, you will be happy. The company appear to have been turn around to the outside world (the analysts at Wall Street gave them good reviews for the last two years). But people within are slowly losing their passion. Management tried to create meaning (to tell employees it's not about money, it's about saving life) by giving presentation on how the technology is being used to cure cancer etc. It got people excited for a few weeks, but soon they realize it's nothing more than a PR trick. Management: People with marketing background in life science (who can't hold an intelligent conversation with a scientist from another company; it was embarrassing) are running most of the R&D operations. I am not going to talk about salary, growth and all that stuffs, because other reviews are pretty spot on. They like to tell you the salary is comparable to other companies on the specific job title. That is true. But what they don't tell you is that you are often doing the job of two to three people.

Pros

Well balanced life/work arrangements, ability to work from home if needed, pretty decent PTOs. Average but competitive pay, full array of medical benefits, but very expensive too. Nice office area, on-site cafeteria with delicious, reasonably priced hot food for breakfast and lunch. Good and modern computer equipment to work on.

Cons

Where do I start...? Abysmal mid and upper management! Extremely TOP-HEAVY, no decision process making, meeting-mania, dozens of people walking with little of no purpose to be there. No short or long term strategic goals. Byzantine bureaucracy! No effective leadership except maybe from your immediate supervisor! Outdated CAD system, they still use Pro/E Wildfire4 that is about 10 years old! Frequent layoffs, where 'chiefs' tend to stay and 'Indians' have to go. They try to meet the 'bottom line' by lay-offs and spending freezes, totally ridiculous!

Pros

Interesting technology. Great people to work with. Unfortunately always looking over their shoulder.

Cons

Constantly re-organizing, changing vision and focus. Very little hope for promotion, salary increase and always fearing that you will be let go.
