Pros

The standards are high, so the place is organized and clean to work in. If you are looking for a fun part time job and love animals you may want to try here.

Cons

Management surely has favorites among the employees. One person could get written up and yelled at for some thing that some one else does on a daily basis. Animal care standards were minimal. Buying and supporting them meant supporting animal breeding facilities whom they buy their thousands of animals from. Their animals if they are sick are put in a "quarantine corner" or cage and wait to dye. Any medical attention given to them is only from the managers or the in house vet from Banfield whom does not know have much knowledge or experience with many of the animals at the store. The petty drama between the employees and the immature theft from one another is just pathetic. The managers from other departments seam to believe they have control over other departments and over you even if you don't work under them. So they may yell at you for some thing your not related to work wise. I once worked the days before Christmas and had a red scarf on, I was cleaning cages, and the manager from the hotel came over and yelled at me for having the scarf on. Technically your not supposed to wear them, but it was Christmas! ...and the BIG store manager (her boss) had on a Santa hat! I remember many a times where i would clean animals and then leave the bowls and toys and such to soak in the sink with hot water and soap to loosen every thing up. (Like my manager had told me to do in my training) One of my coworkers always thought it was the stupidest thing! she would get in to this big huff and yell at me for not doing my "dishes"... what did she think am her kid?! And if I did not put away the dishes after words and left them on the counter too long to dry she would get her panties in a bunch again... She had minimal animal knowledge, was horrible with kids and their parents, I don't know how she even got the job! But non the less her coworkers had to deal with her drama day in and day out! Management never once stepped in even when I verbally complained or wrote up a form...

Pros

The benefits are actually decent for full timers (401 k , insurance, paid vacation) etc. Some of the department managers are very good....but the senior store management is a joke.

Cons

I could go on and on...but generally the company micromanages the stores to the point you feel like you're working in the military. The department managers are put through hell by the store (and sometimes operations manager) and the good ones often quit for putting up with the abuse and not to mention getting paid like crap.

Pros

I liked working at PetSmart because of the great co-workers, good customers overall, flexible management, and good company ethics.

Cons

Stocking shifts start as early as 3-4 AM so be prepared to wake up early if you're on stock crew. Pet care shifts start at 6 AM as well. A computerized scheduling system is used and frequently schedules associates very short shifts (3 hrs) which can be frustrating.
