Pros
At the beginning of my long tenured career, PetSmart was a relatively small company, growing fast with lots of opportunity for creativity and advancement. I had the opportunity to suggest and test new procedures, products and services VS the typical grind of retail, and that was very stimulating. My efforts gained recognition, and I was awarded with promotions and merit increases. Unfortunately, this corporate culture did not last.
Cons
The culture changed. Rather than embracing ideas from the field, senior leaders and field managers now micromanage much more. They promote "inspirational leadership," and hold store managers feet to the fire about doing this with their teams, yet they speak in canned, prepared statements always, never truly taking the time to "connect" (one of their famous corp. terms) with their team leaders. PetSmart is now your typical atmosphere of top down management with the ultimate goal of boosting the almighty stock price.
