Pros

-Better than being unemployed -The customers are mostly very nice -Most of my non-management co-workers are knowledgeable about animal care. -One of the trainers is very good at his job.

Cons

1) By working here, I feel as though I am indirectly supporting animal abuse. There have been countless times when we've gotten a shipment of unhealthy animals/fish but it seems like there are no procedures in place to refuse a shipment and nothing ever happens to the suppliers. Every Friday when we get the fish order, there is at least one bag of dead/dying/ill fish per box. How are we supposed to keep loss under control when we are sent such unhealthy fish? How are we supposed to sell small animals if we have a full sick room? How can an animal supplier get away with sending out guinea pigs with ringworm, hamsters with skin infections, rats with respiratory infections....the biggest downside to working for this company is a broken heart. 2) Management seems to care only about sales goals, and very little about employee morale or even just the general mood of the store. We get conflicting instructions about when to be less task-oriented and more customer oriented. And when we are taking care of customers, we are also getting in trouble for not having the daily tank scrubbing finished early, for the section not being perfectly faced at all times, for opening tasks not being done on time. 3) Being told that more sales equal more hours, and then being told at our huddle meetings that we're ahead of sales plan every week, but still not getting any more hours. Or getting hours cut. 4) If you work here, you will not be appreciated. Bottom line, will not ever be told you're good at your job no matter how many regular customers you have praising you to management.

Pros

this is a good place to wrok if you like interaction with the dogs that come in or the small animals but thats bout all that is good with petsmart

Cons

MANAGEMENT SUCKSS!!!!! they love to play favoritism. at least at my store. Also if they dont want you to work there anymore they will cut your hours so you will quit and cant get uneployement. thats what they are doing to me. and if you ask for more hours they will tell you there isnt hours to give but then hire 3 new ppls and give them 25 to 30 hours. and expect to learn everything on your own because the trainning sucks... all they do is give you books that doesnt tell you everything you need to know....and if you want to be a full time employee dont expect that with petsmart.. theres only 1 full time employee at my store thats not management.
