Pros

Corporate salaries were appropriate.

Cons

Typical of large corporations, PetSmart can't move swiftly enough to shift strategy to address changing market demands. More frustrating, however, is the thin veil everyone wears regarding their love of animals. Some folks actually do care, but it's verboten to present an image of being agnostic toward pets, so everyone else just fakes it.

Pros

Some really good people trapped in a horrible company.

Cons

The hedge fund group that owns the company. I got my first taste at how little they knew how to run a business when the upper management team posted a video for the store stating that they've made a lot of mistakes, were sorry, but that we are expected to still do our jobs and essentially bail them out of their stupidity. They make changes on a weekly and, at times, daily basis. They reverse course without explanation, and have driven out numerous leaders, potential leaders, and tenured personnel to bring in their own corporate pawns who have experience in destroying other companies (Payless Shoes) and no experience on how to take care of or retain their employees.

Pros

If you like animals and educating people on how to properly care for them, you'll like this job. You get to see dogs and puppies all day, and if you work in pet care you get to be responsible for caring for the small animals. My favorite thing to do was to get fish for people. If you work with a good mix of people and enjoy being with your coworkers, the job can be a lot of fun.

Cons

If you have a crappy manager, the job will not be as fun because you get to deal with someone who isn't helpful and schedules you all wrong. Also, since it's retail, you get all that customer b.s. too.
