Pros

The Customers and pets are great

Cons

Groomed for petsmart years ago i didnt mind bathing for a couple weeks to refresh my memory and learn new policies but yet its been over a month and still bathing ....need a 2nd job to be able to afford anything. Everyone i work with seems to think Im their personal assistant / slave. Im expected to stop what im doing to deal with the groomer's dogs or answer the phones. Everyone tells me what to do or always correcting me. They can litterally tell me not to do something and another groomer can do what i just did 5 secs ago yet they say nothing to that person. The kennels and wash area was disgusting when i started ( ive slowly been able to clean it up some ,hard to keep it up by urself) ive been fussed at for cleaning . They need to worry more about the cleanliness than if Someone that isnt a groomer check a groom dog in. I work with a group of hypocrites. I wouldnt personally bring my dogs there til it is clean and sanitized as it should be. I was told not to clean cause no one else does it so im wasting my time . WTH! I just stay to myself . its miserable to never feel like you can do anything right. No one talks so there is always the feeling of the elephant in the room . im trying to get out of this job asap.

Pros

How you lead is directly related to how you view the company and the job. I’ve been with the company over 10years and worked with good and bad leaders. You have to know the difference between leadership and management. You have to be involved and hands on. A Store Leader controls the atmosphere of the store overall. Company encourages development and internal promotions. Lots of policies and procedures - I list this as a positive because they are meant to govern daily tasks and operations to encourage safety and consistency. Encourages recognition from associate level up through corporate level. The company expects more leadership and less management at all levels.

Cons

Having worked my way up in this company I know that as a whole, as with any employer, this company does employ bad leaders. I know there is favoritism within teams from store level up through regional levels, perhaps even higher. Turn over at the store level is huge because the associates aren’t paid competitively enough. Bonuses are hard if not impossible to achieve based on expense gate and the budget they give you.

Think again about working for the corporate office right now

Pros

The corporate campus is nice with child care up to kindergarten, a gym, a dog park, and a cafeteria for associates. Most associates are nice and friendly. It’s nice to have a casual dress code and the ability to bring your pet with you.

Cons

The constant fear of layoffs creates an uneasy work environment. Management is secretive of their plans and will hit different departments at different times so no one knows if and when they might be next. It’s worse than when they did a mass layoff in July when everyone was emailed to be at their desk by 9am and wait for an email about their employment status-all the while Michael Massey was walking around in white pants and a bright shirt. As part of the company mission statement, they emphasize doing the right thing but it feels as though the bottom line is more important than doing what is right for employees, customers, and pets. They want to make everything as spaceially tight and as cheap as possible with the bare minimum of coverage for associates to pets.
