Pros

The connection you get to have with all of the animals is really great. I applied to PetSmart because i wanted to work in pet care, and i do get to do that, so it can be fulfilling some days.

Cons

Petsmart as a company does not follow correct guidelines for caring for animals. They keep animals in dangerously small habitat and do not really seem to actually care. The employees do not follow the rules provided in the manual given to us. There is a binder with thorough instructions to help keep the pet care consistent and high quality, but no one follows the rules. They give animals incorrect amounts and types of foods or vitamins, they cut corners to make things easier or cheaper on themselves, and they never order enough of anything. When i need something, like more food or bedding, we're always out and we have to take some off the shelves, which means the products we're using are not consistent, which is bad for the animals digestion and overall health. No one does any tank maintenance. Usually its just me and 1 floor manager (never enough people im always juggling) and the manager is usually putting items on the shelves, and they somehow manage to make this an all-day thing. I never have time to do tank maintenance or dishes, and it ends up piling up until i do them. On top of all of this, i am never given full time, only a select few are. I applied for full time and still have never worked 40 hours a week. Most of the employees (including managers) are 18-25. They all went to school together or know each other from other friends and act like a clique. I pissed one person off one time and ive never been treated the same since. One manager even complained that i was purposefully avoiding her when i literally wasn't and still have no idea what she could have been talking about. This place sucks and i would never recommend anyone work here.
