Pros

PETCO has a genuine compassion for animals and their owners. The products and foods sold and recommended by the company are very high quality at reasonable prices. The company is not greedy and actually cares about its customers and their pets. It's also very rewarding to work for a company that supports and encourages adoption rather than purchase of new companion animals. PETCO donates proceeds many times throughout the year to shelters in need and follows through by hosting adoption days for the animals and recommending local shelters to customers interested in new pets. This is very admirable because the company chooses to do the right thing in supporting adoption where they could easily make more money off of selling the animals themselves. Working for PETCO makes you realize that there are successful businesses who actually care and stand behind what they're selling and they have the customer loyalty ratings to prove it. PETCO also has one of the most extensive training programs I've ever witnessed and countless opportunities to learn more about products, pets, and policies. They are constantly asking for employee feedback on new ideas, and continually keeping associates informed on new products. PETCO employees really know what they're selling and are given the knowledge to answer any customer questions or concerned.

Cons

The company does not pay much and does not raise salary enough in relation to increased job performance. A key holder makes very little more than a sales associate, and I can't imagine that management pays much better. You would have to really love working for the company to be able to stay with them for long.

Pros

The job can be fun if you enjoy animals and a fast paced enviornment. You received paid training to learn about animal caretaking, animal products, and customer care.

Cons

Not enough employees/ high enough payroll to get everything done. Employees are often scrambling to complete tasks by there deadline. Often only 2 or 3 people will run the entire store, creating a stressful enviornment. Special services such as grooming and dog training are pushed to the back burner, so people hired to perform dog training or another service spendthe majority of their time on other projects. Scheduling was done at the last minute and shifts were often back to back i.e. close --open next morning.

Pros

There is great exposure on a corporate level. As a Marketing Data Analyst you work cross-functionally with many departments such as Marketing, Advertising, Visual, Accounting, and of course Merchandising.

Cons

There is no defined career development plan in place. Unless you know someone in another department, don't plan on receiving any communication regarding advancement in other areas. The systems are also a huge issue. It seems as if PETCO is stuck in the past with it's computer systems. All of the data can also be overwhelming. It seems as if there is often too much time spent on data versus actually analyzing trends and other issues affecting the business.
