Pros

Back when I started, I loved it. My managers were great, the company was great to work for.

Cons

The past year has been a disaster. The company was bought out, all managers had to reapply for their positions. Many people lost their jobs to save a dollar here and there. Managers took advantage of this and got rid of people to start fresh and new. I've been an employee for over 5 years and I am currently seeking new employment. I cannot work for a company that hurts their employees. Animal welfare is NOT a priority anymore, what matters is saving a dollar and not caring for their people.

Pros

Great people (partners) , nice assortment of animals, 401 k is good

Cons

Omg were to begin: no labor to run any size store, I mean zero. As a manager your expected to get things done but you will spend a lot of time at the register or cleaning the bathroom, or the floor, or animal cages etc etc you get the picture. You will never get weekends off, trucks are like 10-20 pallets in a shipment and it needs to be done in 24 hrs and they expect everything else done while your doing it. There are no excuses. Blue dots need to be done daily, food rotation and food restocking daily; cleaning and dusting daily; facing. Ad set has to be done at closing sat night or Sunday before opening 5 inches of tags but now its 300 signs to put out and then labels were no signs go. New phones are a disaster, too complicated to use; rushed extended aisle to order items for customers from web to store no additional labor and nowhere to store products. Dog training if you don't sell classes your going to get fired eventually or called out on email conference calls especially in Steve Shwimmers region. Go 4 weeks without a class sale you better start looking for another job. They get rid of bathers groomers only in grooming. Now bath sales are down and of course we are tracking bath sales and if your not doing good your going to get fired. You will work all holidays, you will be on call everyday oh and they will give you 15 hrs or more but no less. No one can work for Petco unless you can work 15 hrs or more or they will not hire you or they will fire you as we did with three employees one with 5 years with the company because they won't work a guarantee 15 hrs or more. Now because of the hrs we have 7 pt and if one calls in sick we are screwed. Oh Dog trainers get 15 too and they don't like to anything but dog training. They lowered pto (personal time off ) to 28 days earned max. This was because their info stated that we weren't taking the pto over that so they are going to lower it. Truth was we didn't have time and here we go when a salary manager takes pto half of their labor is charged back to the store basically screwing the store out of 20 hrs labor for the week. It's not going to get better. There doing an ipo, or a buyout or whatever you are an idiot if you work for this company Oh the HR, and the help desk are overseas with your SS number they can't speak plain English They fired all the employees to move everything overseas yea money that's what they care about

Pros

Interacting with customers and hearing their pet stories. Learning about all the different animals and the proper care off them. Making new friends.

Cons

Work hours, too much overtime. Lack of communication between employees and management. Grooming salon is way understaffed leaving only one person to cover midday to closing. Absolutely no professionalism here.
