Pros

The job can be laid-back at times when you're ahead on work and my current set of coworkers are awesome.

Cons

Your work load as well as the work that you normally do as a keyholder requires a lot more responsibility and time management than that of a sales associate/cashier position. As well, some associates will use their seniority to push work off on other employees as they feel they're invulnerable to criticism. There's really no way to speak to management about changing or improving anything in the store. Many are unwilling to accept any constructive criticism. A good portion of the groomer clients are absolute psychos. I've had several who would berate me over the phone and then would call back another time, refusing to give their name but wanting to 'get someone elses dog groomed' because they know they're banned from the store. The groomers are unfortunately not able to do or say much in the way of rude and aggressive clients beyond putting them on the Do Not Groom list - and previous management has forced them to deal with clients that were hostile because the manager was familiar with the clients or felt indebted to them.

Pros

Working at PetSense taught me more about dog and cat food and familiarized myself with the differences in brands as well as helping find solutions for customers when they came in with a questions. I also got more involved with the community and the shelters.

Cons

IF I COULD GIVE THIS COMPANY A -10 REVIEW I WOULD. Very disorganized. We order more product than we can sell so our back stock is continuously growing. With constant shipments coming in and little to no staff due to a cut in hours there’s no time to get anything done while taking care of customers when only one person is scheduled at a time. There should always be two people especially at closing. I find it so dangerous to have employees close by themselves because ANYTHING can happen!!!!! The company expects so much out of the store while giving us no resources to actually do them. The entire company seems as if it thrives off of drama. You say one thing and it becomes totally twisted and spreads. I’ve never seen anything so ridiculous. It’s very hard to balance work and home life separately especially when Im constantly being texted by my manager and other coworkers about coming in on my days off or coming in hours early before my shift is suppose to start because things have to get done and, like I said, they can’t be done by one person. If you have school that doesn’t matter because Petsense is what matters at the end of the day to corporate. This job will drain you. This job will introduce you to anxiety to a point where your hair falls out and you will have permanent bags under your eyes.

Pros

Flexible work hours Okay first job for a groomer

Cons

Hire managers with little or no experience managing people Low Pay No Advancement Opportunities for Groomers Company does not support groomers as employees; they are the first person that corporate throws under the bus. Groomers cannot make a decent living here even if you work 40 hours a week. The physical aspect of it will take a toll as expectations are higher than what should be considered normal You will have zero help from associates (although they are supposed to help put large dogs in tubs or on table). It is up to you to check in and check out clients, clean entire shop, wash/groom every dog, and do absolutely everything in the groom shop, which would be fine if it was your own business... but Petsense is making money hand over fist on their groomers with the commission or $9.50 an hour rate ($10 if you advance...that is the cap, or 55 percent commission if you rake in $5,000 a month or more...that is the cap). Managers have no formal training in how to properly manage people, and it is a "shame or blame" system that whittles away at employees self esteem and desire to work there.
