Pros

The only good that has come out of this hell hole is a couple of friends that I’ve made. But they all quit so I don’t think this is really a pro...

Cons

Terrible management, they don’t care about their employees, and say goodbye to family time and holidays off. Market managers do not care if you can’t make it out of your driveway when the weather is rather terrible (2 feet of snow and ice) and they will tell you that there will be “repercussions” for anyone that calls out during bad weather. The only thing keeping me here is the fact that I have bills to pay. If it were for that, they would have another person quit. 5 people have already quit within 2 months already. Do yourself a favor and never work here if you love yourself.

Dysfunctional from the very beginning

Pros

Meeting animals and helping people find the very best food for their animals. Working with shelters and rescues to get animals adopted. Became very good friends with some of my coworkers

Cons

I was hired over the phone without ever meeting anyone. My “interview” consisted of asking if I was comfortable cleaning litter boxes out. That’s it. Two weeks later I was made a key holder. Store manager was completely incompetent. Consistently breaking store policy and the law for that matter. The “open door policy” was met with “why are you throwing your manager under the bus”. My market manager is wonderful but my store manager could use a career change. He doesn’t really want to be there so store moral is so low no one wants to come to work.

Pros

First access to marked down products with additional employee discount and goodies sent from vendors. Easy job for associate. I like the feel of small stores with high quality customer service (usually, not always).

Cons

Vendors treat the employees better than the actual company. Upper company managers nit picks and is demeaning to store managers and their staff. They don’t support the store like they are suppose to. Employees keep leaving due to treatment and unrealistic expectations that is impossible if a store has a small staff. Unless you kiss butt, you will be treated poorly. They keep complaining about inventory increases despite all the stores getting $1000 worth of promotional products coming in every month that no one sells and eventually expires losing us money. Upper management also thinks they shouldn’t follow rules they hold their underlings to. It’s like high school with lots of gossiping and backstabbing. The whole company will learn about everything private because no one knows how to keep their mouth shut which makes their open door policy useless because there will be retaliation. Also the amount of hours given are pathetic. Unless you’re a manager, good luck getting even 25 hours a week and that’s being generous. Benefits also suck for full time employees.
