Pros

Never missed a single paycheck

Cons

Do not expect to be treated well as an employee here. Of course, this is all subjective and varies from department to department. However, overall, county administration seems to go out of their way to treat employees less-than to avoid even the slightest hint of impropriety, as of treating employees well is indicative of something nefarious. Obviously, this is to avoid the possibility of conflict with angry white men (who own property). "Why are employees paid at market value? That's money that could be spent on potholes!" Benefits are garbage. The only health plan available is a high deductible plan. Deductibles vary based on coverage type (single vs. coupled vs. family, etc). Communication is a big problem and it's primarily top-down, by which I mean county administration and department management do a terrible job of keeping their employees informed of the current happenings, all the while expecting these same employees to keep their supervisors and such informed of their own happenings. Issues (performance and otherwise) are not addressed at an individual level. If a single employee in a department can't wrap their head around proper email etiquette, it becomes a department-wide issue that must be addressed, rather than just sitting Stewart down and telling him not to type in all caps. Little has been done to even try to accommodate employees during this covid pandemic. Want to telecommute? Ha, good luck! Alternate schedule? Nope. Shuttle flexibility? Like a wood beam. So, why exactly would someone want to work for Pima County? That's a good question to which I'm still trying to find an answer.
