So many layoffs...

Pros

The product was interesting for a time, but then the market caught up and location data became commoditized. Sometimes the company does interesting work and solves complicated problems. The benefits are decent.

Cons

There have been multiple rounds of layoffs. It seems like the company missed the boat on getting acquired and really overshot on their expectations. My sense is that they are struggling and aren't really sure how to course correct.

Going downhill

Pros

The company used to be really great. The benefits were good and the work was interesting.

Cons

Everything is being poorly managed. Huge layoffs 2 years in a row. If the company spent money more wisely (fewer over-the-top happy hours/client parties, snacks, etc), jobs could have been saved. The cut out a lot of employees who had invested a lot of time into the company and were extremely loyal, but stuck with newer ones who cost them less. The new benefits for 2017 are terrible. The brand new office is going to be split into half a co-working space.

Pros

- The work is challenging and rewarding at a technical level. - Reasonably progressive corporate culture. - Flexible scheduling requirements, can work from home occasionally as needed. - Employees are passionate about what they do and are eager to share their knowledge and experience. - Monthly happy hours. - great culture which is very employee friendly - office perks: lots of free food (snacks, cereal, drinks, bi-weekly lunches), company events - We have great people that work here * We have the smartest man working here in the company * We have the "Man with the most curb appeal" * We have the "Greatest Guy/Man" working here * Best Table Tennis player in all of midtown. * 2 of the best hackey sackers in the Northeast region

Cons

- Many initiatives trumpeted for some time were abandoned once complete. - Chasing the next new thing can leave some to be a bit cynical about what they are working on now, in those rare cases. - There can be times when it's hard to connect vision and products.
