Pay is low for the industry, focus is on sales, and the product needs some updating but upper management is focused on the shiny new feature. Work loads often don't match an individual's bandwidth, so it's common especially in 4th quarter for work to pile on and pile on a single individual. The company lowballs on salary at every turn with 0.00 to incremental merit increases. You have to threaten to leave the company in order to get a reasonable salary adjustment.
