Pros

Take it if the only offer you get. Some mediocre middle management and partners.

Cons

As a first year, your pay is on par with Big 4. It falls further behind each year. It is typically $30k less by the time you reach manager. Exit ops are mediocre in MI, poor in OH & IL, and horrible in all other states. Consider switching to Big 4 ASAP if you start work here. Work life balance is slightly better than Big 4 during busy season but slightly worse than Big 4 off-season. Public accounting (audit and tax) are such that under 10% of ppl enjoy their jobs. Even if you love your job, it can get depressing since few of your colleagues will. Also, it is becoming more compliance oriented, so it doesn't set you up for a front office job (only back office exit ops).

Pros

Clients - Terrific client base provides good learning opportunities, and network building. Brand - Good reputation, resume builder. Perks - PTO is good, but impossible to utilize when you are expected to bill 2,600+ hours.

Cons

Hollow Corporate Culture - "Jerk Free", "The Golden Rule", "Island you don't want to leave". All of these hollow cliches perpetuate the "Best Place To Work" accolade. Tons of passive aggressive personalities in my experience at the firm. Partners - Way too many partners. Very few partners that have any ability to lead and develop staff. Even fewer that have your best interest on their priority list. Kind of an old boys club. If you can last 15 years at the firm, congrats you are a partner. No real fast track. Some partners churn through staff at incredibly high turnover rates, but are never held accountable for not developing staff and treating them poorly. I had partners tell me they were powerless to impact change if it was related to a rain making partners group. Compensation - Rigid system for rewarding employees which disenfranchises high achievers. Not competitive with peer groups. If you aren't a partner, you are vastly underpaid.

Pros

1. Flexible work schedule 2. Snacks once in a while

Cons

Here are my concerns about the working conditions at Plante: 1. Plante has a non-disparagement clause in their employee agreements, so I think that says a lot. 2. Jerk Free environment= passive aggressive 3. Far from a diverse work environment, as a minority I sure didn't feel welcomed 4. Lots of kool aid. 5. Work life balance is a joke, be expected to work on vacations and if you push back, expect to be punished in another way 6. People here can't be honest and direct. 7. Travel agency we are required to use is ridiculous. 8. No room for growth. 9. Limited opportunities for training. I went through their training program real quick and now all training I do is external.
