If you're not from Michigan, you're not valued!

Pros

Some nice coworkers and some great clients. Great for first three years of experience but then need to go elsewhere.

Cons

When interviewing, they say 2400 average work hours....try 2600 if not more. It's all political favorites and if you are from a merged in firm, you are seen as inadequate as compared to original Michigan p&m hires. Management (all Michigan originals and majority - over 90 percent men) act like Michigan area is the only area that can produce higher thinking individuals. Management transfers in there buddies and they are made equity partners within one year of transfer - even though they don't have a local network or book of business to support partnership......but they are from Michigan. Focus and choice is sold in proposals and Interviews but only a select few get to truly practice focus and choice. High billing rates but low low salary once reach in charge level and up. Save the money to pay partners and dangle the carrot for others who work 2500-2600 hours and receive less than 100grand because they don't make charge hour requirements.

Pros

- Seem to try and do what they think is best - Growing in Chicago - Cheap soda - Promote work/life balance

Cons

- Management seems to be making decisions based on outdated logic and with a focus on what will benefit the few, especially those at the top - Promote work/life balance, but this seems to be a lot of talk and definitely not a reality among my co-workers - We made Fortune's best place to work list! Here is a $5 gift card! - Always tell you how great a place it is to work, but in reality, it just isn't that great unless you enjoy hardcore corporate culture and a complete lack of focus on employee day-to-day work life for the betterment of the firms growth/profit - Technology. The people who are making the decisions with technology are old, no better way to put it. Their decisions are laughable and are based on logic from the early 2000's (what is this scary, risky thing called e-mail!?) - Very little ability to make changes, despite employee's and certain management recognizing a great need for change in certain areas, nothing seems to get done, at least timely - Do not take others point of views in consideration, very centralized, top heavy decision making - Never felt as if management shared the values of the employees working there

Pros

Public Accounting Experience is great - you will learn about tax and accounting. Offices are nice. good amount of vacation days.

Cons

The firm is only known in Michigan, no brand recognition in Illinois. Very competetive for engagements, and partners favor certain managers and staff. Most decisions are made in Michigan, so partners are powerless. Many transfers from Michigan to Chicago, who end up transferring back to Michigan. Most things are run out of the Michigan office, so if you live in Chicago, expect to be in the office at 6 am for webinar training.
