Here’s where things get tough. Though each team is effective on their own, they don’t work together very well. This stems from the fact that each department is in its own silo, both physically and in terms of their jobs. On that same note, upper management is in its own silo away from everyone else, so the decisions they make tend to not have real-world impacts. The biggest gap here is communication. They say that they’re all about transparency here, but only when it comes to funding. Even then, it’s the most high level view of what’s going on. However, no one gets to see what we’re working towards, or where the money is being spent. In addition, goals from upper management are unrealistic, at best, and that really stems from a lack of understanding of the manufacturing industry.
