Pros

Many fine,well-meaning, smart and driven people, great benefits, work is very connected to current events, perfect size in terms of numbers of people, innovative, gives people tools they need to do their job.

Cons

Culture is inconsistent: some parts of firm are excellent areas to work in, with a strong ethos of learning and a focus on stressing individual and firm growth while other areas have more zero-sum approach that views employees as resource to be consumed and replaced, lack of empathy and concern from some senior and middle managers about providing paths of opportunity for individuals, 'open door' policies often insincere and indicative of favoritism, with requests for feedback that is either ignored or regarded with contempt/offense, pockets of arrogance and self-centeredness in some investment teams. HR issues: once hired into one function, many people are tracked and unable to change course, values new employees and recruitment more than existing employees, sometimes places people in wrong jobs because not always interested in fit, seems intentionally ambiguous how to apply for different job, with different gatekeepers depending on circumstance, review process only takes into account what the firm considers germane and does not allow employees to showcase outside accomplishments as basis for promotion or job change.

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts on the Firm. We’re pleased that you thought Point72 was filled with smart people and was a vibrant, growing place, although were were surprised to see the Firm characterized as “a very high turnover place.” Last year, less than 5 % of our staff left Cubist voluntarily or involuntarily. While some individual teams may have different turnover rates, we think it’s fair to characterize turnover here as very low compared to others in the industry. Cubist makes an extraordinary effort to attract and retain our employees. We carefully select new hires and take time to understand what their personal and career goals are. We know that one of the key ingredients for building a successful research environment is long-term stability, which we support by offering our employees the opportunity to add to their skills and build a career our Firm.

Pros

Used to be a great place where the people at Point72 felt like family. Used to be a place where there was no politics. Everyone knew each other, and everyone was treated with respect. Used to be a place where I loved to work. It's a place I never ever wanted to leave. Used to have the brightest technologist, and best leaders in the industry.

Cons

New management replaced many of the old timers with lower cost resources. New management has killed the culture. There is no longer any harmony. After all, many of new hires have not had time to build relationships. The IT folks who had the institutional knowledge are mostly gone. While the new folks are highly skilled and hungrier, the departures have created a brain drain. There too many new players who don't understand the environment, and the environment is falling apart. Fancy town halls feels like smoking mirrors. While the new leader talks about innovation, the new strategy being played out is not working. Many of the new hires are also leaving in frustration. While new leader distastefully makes a mockery of how the old management lacked any strategy, the new strategy is not working out as planned.
