Pros

Great people to work with. Developed good rapport with my staff, peers and mgt. Very much a "family" in that sense. I got to learn a lot about BCD technologies (an area I had not worked with before). Benefits were nice as were the 401k matching program. With automotive certified processes, the company could make a lot of money if Operations gets its act together.

Cons

Always trying to do more with less (a lot less). Pay is definitely average or a little below. With a lot of old equipment that isn't matched, there were a lot of processing issues and resulting scrap. Technology development runs at a snail's pace because the fab is always overloaded. Not clear to me that Operations really knows how to run a fab efficiently, resulting in a lot of WIP bubbles and "Chinese fire drills"

Pros

Polar is a manufacturing line producing high tech products, that's kinda neat. Competitive pay, good health benefits, convenient location in Bloomington for most people's commutes. Engineers will face a variety of challenges so you won't get bored, but your good work won't always be appreciated, see below.

Cons

This company has been working on a shoe string budget for years, there is never any funding available to make the kinds of improvements that are really needed. The equipment in all areas is a hodge podge from various vendors and from all vintages. The biggest challenge is to keep it all running and to detect the next big quality issue early enough to prevent the need of throwing thousands of wafers in the rubbish bin. Management is so focused on "making the numbers" that quality comes secondarily and even though this lesson has been learned many times over the years, it still get repeated way too often.

Pros

It's a full-time job with benefits that's pretty much it...

Cons

Everything, from HR to management and the co-workers. HR doesn't care about the employees and doesn't even know their own policies. Management are full of it where they don't even back up their own words and can careless about what we have to say. Co-workers bad attitudes and doesn't follow procedures plain and simple. I can go on and on but the bottom line and main factor is that this company does not care or treat everyone fairly. They only care about numbers more than anything... So the more WAFERS you make the more MONEY they make. Quality? They laugh at... The training system is ridiculous and this company is one of the shadiest places I know. I mean they hide rooms from the man main that owns the company. He doesn't even know that these rooms exist! Not just him the tourist also! WOW! The walk-thru these people give the tourist and the owner are all lies! Just stay away from this company better yet anyone that is helping or buying things from Polar Semiconductor Inc? Stop now, they will only take your money and give nothing or even bring you down with them. STAY AWAY
