      Pros

      Good people for the most part. Location is pretty good, Mountlake Terrace, just off 99 (and I-5). Work hours (at least for IT staff) tend to be pretty flexible. Good benefits, especially WRT to health insurance. Premera actually does (or did) have a real, funded pension system in addition to a 401(k).

      Cons

      Rigid, inflexible "grid" management. Posters around the company used to say, "Be a silo buster!" Slow to adopt new technologies: change == risk; risk == bad, ergo change is bad. All in all, fairly typical for an insurance company.

      Pros

      There are many challenges to be had at Premera. Plenty of opportunity for improvements and ability to have your voice heard.

      Cons

      A lot of tribal knowledge. It's challenging to identify who needs to be involved, when they need to be nvolved, and what they know.
