Pros

I took a position with Premier on whim, thinking what I read was too good to be true. For once, it wasn't. I found myself in a situation where I was in control of what I get paid. I didn't know a thing about roofing before joining the company, but the training brought me up to speed quickly. Then it was up to me, and I made the most of it. Scary at first, but if you are a "go-getter" and somebody that perseveres when challenged, this is your niche. It takes A LOT of hard work to make it work, but if you're willing to pay the price, the returns are unmatched. Even though my title may not seem as impressive, I now make more than my friends that became doctors, engineers, etc. On top of that, I work for only a portion of the year (can't roof in Winter). Now I get to travel the world whilst I'm still young enough to enjoy everything the world has to offer

Cons

If you don't do well, you don't get paid well - it's a pure commission only sales position. Hours can be very demanding during peak season, but the pay-off is worth every minute. It can take a while (couple months) to get your back-end bonuses, but if you're doing well, the upfront commissions are plenty for the average individual

Pros

This is the best company I have ever worked for. I have been with the company for 7 years and have nothing but positive things to say about the organization. This company is set up so that individuals can come in and learn the business in depth and get trained in by highly skilled people to maximize their performance out in the field. The company gives you all the tools you need to be successful and then it is just a matter of putting in your best effort. The sales jobs are hard work, but the sales positions allow you to work outside, connect directly with customers all while providing great products and service. It is great to work for such an ethical company that actually wants to provide the highest level of customer service possible. One of the best parts of this job is taking time off during the winter to travel and ski while roofing slows down and the fact that a six figure earning potential is real.

Cons

We work really hard during the summer months and some days in the field can be hot when the sun is shinning bright.

Great people, challenging position

Pros

The atmosphere in the office and the people are great. Lots of company perks and events. Comprehensive training for the position by the company. Pretty solid pay. Rapid growth for a roofing company. Great work life balance.

Cons

One of my pros is also a con. While they give a lot of perks like reimbursing for gym membership fees, give out lots of company gear, and set up company events...they do these things in leau of providing substantial benefits. As of now there is no retirement or 401k. They reimburse a set amount of your health insurance cost, but don't offer a company sponsored plan. With premiums on the rise, there hasn't been an adjustment to the reimbursement amount or an increase in pay to keep up. Hopefully this changes soon. The pay for the position depends on the profitibility of each project, instead of the $ amount or % increase that is negotiated with insurance. This leaves a lot of variables that are out of your control and impacts commission checks and can be frustrating at times.
