Pros

If you’re looking for a case study in corporate dysfunction, you’ve found it. Some talented colleagues, but most are stuck in a broken system.

Cons

Progress Software was one of the most frustrating, unfair, and demoralizing professional experiences of my career. The leadership is shady, the compensation structure is misleading, and employees are treated as disposable assets. If you’re considering a role here, here’s what you need to know: 1. Broken Quotas & Financial Devastation • For two consecutive years, the company failed to set quotas on time, despite the fiscal year beginning on December 1. • Commission plans weren’t delivered until late June or early July, meaning employees worked more than half the year without knowing their targets or earnings potential. • After months of uncertainty, I was blindsided two years in a row with massive commission clawbacks, as the company claimed I owed them significant money due to a recoverable draw. • I was then forced to sign my commission plan under duress. After waiting more than six months for my earnings structure, I had no choice but to accept their terms, knowing that rejecting it would put me in an even worse financial situation. The company left no room for discussion or negotiation—either sign or risk losing my income. • This unethical practice wrecked my financial stability, making it nearly impossible to plan ahead or succeed. 2. Toxic Leadership & Lack of Support • Leadership ignored repeated requests for clarity on quotas, compensation, and role expectations. • The product I was assigned to had no real support—no marketing, no cross-functional collaboration, and no investment from leadership, making success impossible. • Senior management dismissed legitimate concerns with vague excuses instead of addressing systemic issues. 3. Signing Under Duress & Retaliation • Not only was I forced to sign my commission plan under duress, but my termination and severance agreement as well. • When I was let go, I was given no time to properly review my severance package despite the fact that I was dealing with serious health concerns and urgent health insurance decisions. • The company provided zero flexibility for me to consult with doctors, review my insurance options, or ensure continued healthcare coverage before forcing me to make a decision. • The pressure to sign quickly out of fear of losing my healthcare put me in an impossible position, further highlighting the company’s complete disregard for employee well-being. • Advocating for fair compensation and better conditions was met with hostility, and those who spoke up were pushed out. 4. Complete Disregard for Employee Well-Being • Compensation declined significantly while expectations and workloads increased with no additional support. • The company prioritizes profit over people, treating employees as replaceable assets rather than valued professionals. Final Thoughts I experienced a turbulent restructuring that siloed my role, stripping away support and setting me up to fail. Despite this, I was a top 5% sales performer and was awarded President’s Club/Circle of Excellence—only to be fired less than eight months later. Progress Software does not care about its employees—not their financial stability, not their well-being, and certainly not their health. If you value fair pay, ethical leadership, and a supportive work environment, stay far away from this company. Long story short: This company is ruthless. You deserve better.

They promote unqualified people to be managers, ultimately affecting your job security. I was put on a PIP and was a victim of wrongful termination for non-performance reasons after achieving 100% quota the previous year. They say they don't micromanage and do the opposite to show they are managing a team. Nit-picking for things that aren't performance-related can allow you to lose your job there. Having 2 managers for a renewal team isn't needed especially if one doesn't qualify to be promoted as a manager compared to the other manager.
