Pros

In my experience, the best reasons for working at Progressive iinclude an environment that fosters good work/life balance and opportunities to expand one's career. I believe that one has the flexibility to change careers better than most companies that I have worked. It is entirely on the individual to determine where they want to go.

Cons

When it comes to senior leadership positions, a downside can be the empasis that gets placed on the prestige of certain MBAs vs. the actual substance of the individual. While this is probably common across the industry, I think capable leaders who generate results are at a disadvantage because their MBA isn't from a top 10 instituition. Not everyone's circumstances in life can afford them that opportunity. For example, I admire high performers who have committed themselves to earning their Masters in the evenings because they have to provide for a family.

Pros

At the time the job was work from home. The culture of the company as a whole is great and there are lots of employee resource groups. The pay is pretty decent and there's a pretty good bonus structure. The health insurance is pretty good as well.

Cons

Where do I start? The training is great and everyone is so supportive. They tell you it's going to take time to learn the job and that "no one feels comfortable with the job for a year" and that is fine. They even have executives come in and tell you how much they "love claims" and how hard it is and how you just have to take it "one day at a time". Sounds pretty great right? Then you do your onboarding and you get one or two claims a day that are not too complicated. Again, very encouraging and supportive. Then you get out of onboarding...and they bury you. You have an unachievable amount of work given to almost immediately. The supportive people will continue to say "it just takes time to learn" but the reality is that there's not enough business hours in a day to get everything done that needs to be done. Not to mention the amount of phone calls you have to do to the insured and the people involved in the accidents. People don't answer their phones and you're berated for not contacting them quickly enough. Everything you do is monitored and analyzed with a fine toothed comb and your harassed daily about literally everything. The supportive people continue to tell you "it just takes time and you're doing fine" meanwhile your boss is telling you what a horrible job you're doing. It's literally psychological torture. Once you fall behind it's almost impossible to get caught back up. Even working late doesn't help because half of the things you need to do require calling a business between 9 and 5. Really cannot stress this enough that it was the worst job I've ever had. It was so traumatic that just hearing a Progressive ad on the radio or television gave me cold sweats. I got to where I couldn't even go into my home office when I wasn't working. Again, everyone I encountered was very kind and compassionate outside of the actual day in day out roles. I just felt like I was being gaslit the whole time where one group, including my onboarding coach looked at my work and said I was doing great, meanwhile my boss was telling me what an epic failure I was. She would tell me to manage my schedule and then at 10pm on Sunday night go into my Monday schedule and add 20 things for me to do on top of what I already had and then at the end of the day Monday want to know why I didn't get everything done. By the way, you're still getting new claims assigned to you while all of this is going on. It is just absolute madness.

Pros

Yes, the job was stressful, but it used to be that there were great people working there with you, and that made it all possible. Now everyone is so stressed out, and overworked that it's not a pleasant place to be at all.

Cons

Someone else put it perfectly when they said the expectation is that you fit 12 hours of work into an 8 hour work day. If you can't do it then *you* must be doing something wrong. Oh, and lunchbreak? What's that? You could take another 15 phone calls during that time. Overtime? Oh, heavens no. If you can't get your work done during your shift then that's your own fault, so you better stay late to finish it up. No, they're not going to pay your overtime.
