Pros

NOTE: I'm reviewing specifically the Bellevue office, while there are also 2 offices in New Zealand - also I'm focused on the role of project manager, which is quite different from SDEs, testers, designers and others. PROs: Fantastic place to transform or accelerate your growing career in technical project management. You will be expected to provide Agile and Scrum best practice project management, product ownership in some cases, and program management in others depending on your skills and experience. If you have a strong background in either software development or project management (i.e. one but not the other) then they are willing to "coach you up" if you have the grit, work ethic, and desire to learn, which is really great. The expectations and responsibilities for project managers at Provoke are very high. I am listing this as a good thing because I enjoy increased responsibilities (e.g. sales/contract authorship, product ownership/design, SDLC/testing/release planning and oversight, sometimes complex forecasting/invoicing/administration) and understand it helps my career long-term, but others may not enjoy the pressure that comes with so much responsibility. Overall, I strongly recommend working as a PM at Provoke if you are hungry to grow and want to take on a diverse set of projects ranging from chat bots, customized Azure services, web apps, mobile apps, cloud migrations, PowerBI dashboards/analytics, and much more.

Cons

CONs: If you are coming from another consulting firm that is a "well-oiled machine" with cookie-cutter projects/deployments this may be an adjustment for you. This is a smaller office (for now) that requires folks to wear many hats and adapt according to the unique needs for each customer, which is great for someone younger looking to grow and learn, but probably harder for someone who doesn't like ambiguity, changing or unclear requirements, and complex problem-solving with minimal guidance. All that being said, this is a very positive, supporting learning environment that encourages people who are willing to put in the work to learn.

Pros

- Junior consultants and devs were personable and sharp - Learned about environments that have misaligned communication from leadership with what happens in reality - Exposure to startup based consulting

Cons

- Very disorganized and lack of structure for career growth - Preachy messages from C-Level that did not correlate to the work organization, portfolio, or employee level growth - Poor communication and unclear expectations - do not expect to get feedback that is genuine.. there are hidden agendas not clear at all levels - Unprofessional conduct with cliques among senior execs and long tenured employees - Frantic and chaotic work environments with consultants expected to deliver across multiple engagements and time zones - Lack of recognition and empathy

Pros

Great culture that's people-focused When working in office, perks like food, beer and monthly massages Opportunity to wear many hats and learn on the fly They don't micromanage you and trust you to do your job Pay for certifications relevant to your role Extremely friendly folks Very flexible for things outside of work and understand that you have a life not at the desk Separate PTO and sick days that roll over Good work life balance but the ability to take on more work if you want it Paid overtime - unheard of for most salaried roles

Cons

Benefits could be better - the company is still small and growing so hopefully this improves sooner rather than later None other than these
