Pros

Eight days a month in office. My team interacts in a professional manner, however, I have seen some of the Senior managers not behave professionally at all. Sad. Example..less than 36 hours after major hurricane struck..no gas, no power for most of the area since and my senior manager ask if I have vacation days left I could use because when asked via text, I shared I had NO gas and NO power and food was spoiling, no hot water. I had no means of going into the office or working from home. The next business day, however, things had gotten better(as I knew they would). I could not respond. I had no words. I was trying to survive and all he cared about was if I could use one of my vacation days cause I could not work. The next day (Sat), the Gov. had trucks come into the area to give away gas because many people were suffering. And he wanted to focus on one day.

Cons

Lack of leadership. I think Publix lacks a critical mass of professionals that have worked outside of the "incestuous" Public bubble. As result, they haven't grown intellectually as an organization. They still try to work like they are a small company with a focus on constant fire fighting versus looking ahead and thinking strategically to improve the IT structure long term. As soon as one fire is put out, everyone just goes back to business as usual until the next fire. Very reactive. Not open to new ideas.

Pros

Guaranteed hours as a full timer & benefits

Cons

You will be overworked. Management will talk to you in an unprofessional manner. They will try to schedule you outside of your availability . There isn’t any real opportunity for promotion without years of doing your management’s job , your job , passing the test , plus the extra waiting period unless you wanna get sent 1 1/2 -2 hours away to be promoted. Unethical & Discretionary management practices Hr & corporate dont do anything they just try to gather information on the situation to see if they can get out in front of it by trying to fire you

Pros

Publix's high standards kept everything organized and clean. There was structure to everything which is perfect for someone who is Type A. Management was usually great.

Cons

Sometimes those high standards became a problem. New managers that wanted everything perfect all the time tended to treat employees badly. I left because of toxic management. I felt targeted at all times even though I worked very hard every time I clocked in. It felt like I could do nothing right. Pay was often not good. I got hired on at 11 an hour and it was slow to get that to 12.50 meanwhile brand new cashiers were being hired on with zero experience at higher pay. A lot of employees quit because new hires were getting paid more than they were. You're expected to work hard for bare minimum pay and will probably be out-earned by a minor.
