Pros

The workforce are good people with a sense of humor about QVI. Some of these good people are oblivious to the dysfunctionality. QVI is a VERY successful business and they have an effective profit-driven business strategy. Decent medical benefits. It’s a job.

Cons

After a short time on the job, to my disappointment, I found that it felt like “amateur hour.” QVI is not in the category of whom they consider “competitors;” Mititoyo, Zeiss, Reneshaw, etc. QVI is fast paced in a reactionary situation and lagging far behind when it comes to technology and pioneering. Headquartered in an awful location, you will be greeted daily with vicious looks as you drive the final miles to QVI. One will occasionally find bullets in the parking lot. There have been three murders and seven shootings within a single block within the last four years. I even witnessed an arson and resulting manslaughter two lots away. New hires soon discover the “untouchables” - a small class of people whom have been there long enough to have the unquestioning confidence of management regardless of their scrutiny-free contributions. QVI is plagued with horrendous communication and incoherent direction at every level – it feels like herding cats from a cat’s perspective. As a result, projects are needlessly protracted. Their equipment is grossly outdated. For the employees: desk top computers only, no remote email access and no working from home unless you are one of the untouchables. Expect no or anemic raises and draconian vacation policies. Unpaid time off is not permitted. There is no 401K matching. While an employee is owed no more than their salary, QVI’s profit sharing is miniscule compared to all other companies for which I have worked - 0.75% in 2015 and if, and only if, tons of stipulations are met. An employee is not fully included until he/she has been there three years.

Pros

There are some very good and talented people here

Cons

The culture is one of dog eat dog, perpetuated by the COO. Rules by dividing and conquering and encouraging middle management to berate their subordinates. Employees are touted as being empowered to make changes ... Nothing could be further from the truth as they are micro-managed to death. It just sucks the life and desire right out of you. They expect everything out of their employees, yet never reward or nurture their efforts.
