They pay on time that’s about all

If you want to be a mechanic and help get people moving. Unfortunately this is the wrong job for you. If you want to be a salesman then this will be the perfect job. You’ll be threatened to loose your contract if you don’t sell the almighty Smr product You’ll be bombarded with calls and emails if you don’t use sale tactics to sell the almighty Smr We have sale targets for the almighty Smr even though we’re not sales.

Thanks for taking the time to share this – especially after more than 10 years with the RAC. That kind of experience really matters, so it’s tough to read how you’re feeling about things right now. We’re glad you’ve called out that pay is reliable, but it’s clear from your comments that something isn’t sitting right when it comes to how patrol and SMR are working together. That’s not the experience we want for our technicians. As you know, SMR is still relatively new and continuing to grow, so there’s a real focus on getting that balance right and making sure it works for everyone. First and foremost, we’re here to help members get the service they need, and to create a workplace you can feel proud to be part of. Your point around being a mechanic, not a salesperson, is heard. As we keep developing how we approach the relationship between patrol and SMR, feedback like this is important in helping us shape things in the right way. As you’re currently with us, we’d really encourage you to speak with your line manager or reach out to People Services if you’d prefer. Thanks for taking the time to share this – it’s really appreciated. It’s great to hear you’re enjoying the benefits and see the RAC as a good place to work. At the same time, we know busy breakdown periods can be tough, and it can feel particularly intense in a contact centre environment when demand is high. Creating a more balanced and supportive experience during those peak times is something we’re always working on, whether that’s through better planning, support on shift, or making sure the right help is in place when it’s needed most. Really nice team, friendly colleagues

Cons

Stressful work, felt out of my depth and little support from management - very much a sink or swim job. Toilet breaks monitored and told if if you take too long which I found uncomfortable. Overall not great management.

We're unsure where exactly you were based but in the likes of our contact centre and helpline environments, this is in place to help us manage coverage for our members, but it should never make colleagues feel uncomfortable.
