Pros

You gain a great deal of experience in professionally dealing with all sorts of clients and resolving their problems.

Cons

It's a high pressure environment, you constantly have to deal with daily sales targets (pitching electronic statements, referrals to credit/investments etc) while maintaining other stats like the length of your call, total time logged in and taking calls etc. There's a ton of coaching involved, I learned a great deal from this sort of feedback, however I will say overly done. It usually takes at least a year + of hardwork to be promoted into another line of business, i.e. within the contact center again, and within credit or investment department (pay starting at 41K in these departments around when I was there)
