Pros

The company tries to be trendy and provide a lot of the cool perks offered by tech companies. There's a weekly catered lunch, a gym at the office, and a kitchen with basic snacks. The

Cons

The culture of the company is rapidly declining. There's a clear issue with profitability, based upon the hiring of a new COO within the past year or so. Almost immediately, several anti-employee changes were implement. Vacation was made less flexible. Pushes towards overworking employees was emphasized. And, absolutely worst of all, about half of management was demoted to individual contributor roles. With that sudden change in the balance of power, things instantly caused promotions to be based even more upon office politics rather than merit (as if that wasn't an issue already). The result of all of these changes are that employees now feel underworked and under-appreciated, with a whole bunch of angsty Strategists that desperately want to get back to management status.

Pros

Free snacks and variety of free drinks

Cons

Would like to start this by saying I am not a disgruntled employee who was fired, I have been in the professional world prior to this job and there are some big red flags to be aware of. -They recruit right out of college for very cheap labor, making you sign a GLOBAL non-compete which is unheard of for an agency so small (and quite frankly no one outside of Raleigh knows who ROI is so why do they care). Expect a very low salary and not having the option of going to another agency -Since most of the employees that are right out of college they are still in "party mode", drinking and hooking up with each other making it for an awkward work environment -The employees that do get promoted to leadership roles have no idea what they are doing and lead teams where they have no knowledge or prior experience in the area -No proper training -There is a very high turnover rate, something to consider when looking at a company -Huge lack of trust and flexibility. They allow 1 work from home day a month, but not for 9 months after your hire date. They try to show flexibility by having a leave early and come late day twice a month, but you are not paid for that, or anything that causes you to be gone for more than 21 minutes. Most other companies understand that life happens and if you need to leave an hour early one day for a dentist appointment, it's not a big deal why dock your compensation. Other companies trust that you will get your work done without needing to be tracked. Not ROI. -Team leads and management don't fight for their employees, they only follow what HR wants -Raises are only within your "band" so very small and no room for negotiation These are only a few of the cons. There are so many amazing companies in the RTP area, I suggest you look there instead.

Thank you for feedback, I'm committed to creating a place and a culture where we are excited to come to work every day and both new and experienced team members can grow their career so I'm disappointed to hear about some of your experiences. A few thoughts: You're right that we recruit from local universities (for internships and entry level positions) but we also devote a significant amount of our recruiting resources to identifying and sourcing candidates with outside work experience like you. Because much of the work we do for our customers is highly unique we are most often able to help someone who is 'smart and can get things done' enter a field without specialized experience. Over the last few years I've led our shift to becoming a well-recognized, full service digital agency for large, internationally known brands and because of that it's led to a couple instances where someone who leads a team is new to that specific service but those instances are rare. Typically a team lead has a good number of years of experience in the service (either organically or through professional experience). Proper training and continuous learning are things we work hard to provide to our team members. Our Learning and Development team provides a variety of resources for employees regardless of their role and tenure. For example, we have new hire training programs, soft skills trainings, technical trainings, hands-on workshops, new hire mentorship programs, new manager mentorship programs, and leadership training, just to name a few :). We utilize a combination of internal subject matter experts, research-based approaches and external resources to provide employees with the best content possible. Given our focus on growth for both our clients and our employees, this is an area we in which we will continue to invest. In addition to formal "classroom" style training, I'm a big believer in pairing, something we do extensively on our dev team, to foster a learning environment, eliminate towers of knowledge, and teach/question one another in the specific technical discipline we're working in. It's something that I'm focused on expanding in the near term. And while we have added additional flexibility that allows for manager discretion when "life happens", for the most part that kind of collaborative effort requires people to be in the same place at the same time. Finally, our compensation and benefits package for all positions in the company is more than competitive against the market. While it's rare today that someone grows their career at one company for life, ROI Revolution has dozens of employees who have started here and grown their career and income significantly, many for 5, 10+ years. As always, I'm open to thoughts on ways to more completely appreciate the hard work that goes into delighting our clients every day; feel free to talk with me directly about this if you have any further ideas or even additional feedback on anything else: timothy [at] roirevolution [dot] com or x4202. -Timothy

High Turnover & High Stress

Pros

Good job opportunity for fresh college grads. You will learn a lot about digital marketing, client relationship management, etc. You will acquire both analytical and strategic skills that are transferable. You are opted into a health care plan (at no cost), 401k contributions and access to a pretty impressive snack pantry.

Cons

ROI is a sinking ship & employees are simply treading water. Employees are assigned too many clients and battle unrealistic client expectations promised by upper management and/or the sales team. Due to the workload and lack of support from management, employees often feel undervalued, under appreciated and just fed up. The review process is very frustrating and not transparent, and it takes a long time to get promoted and it has become even more challenging over the past year. At any given time, I would estimate that 60% of employees are actively looking for work elsewhere. As a result, ROI has lost a majority of its strategic experts and industry leaders over the past two years due to a high turnover rate. Employees are still leaving the company, from all levels, at a consistent rate.

Thank you for the feedback. We work diligently to create an environment focused on your learning and development and to provide competitive benefits including comprehensive health care at no cost to you. We are similarly committed to fostering a positive environment where our employees are regularly supported and celebrated, so I’m disappointed to read some of your comments. We have rolled out several new recognition programs to highlight the great work of our employees including the High Fives program and NPS Awards, and we continue to look for more we can do here as we scale to a company of nearly 200 employees. Additionally, as you know from our Q2 Kick-Off presentation, we are currently re-evaluating our performance review system this quarter. Since it was a brand new process launched 2 years ago, it is certainly not a perfect system in its current form. We’ll keep you all posted as we identify meaningful ways to improve it. If you have any ideas or suggestions on the topics you highlighted, I would welcome an opportunity to speak with you directly. If you are open to it, please stop by Open Office Hours (held every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 1-2pm) or schedule a time to speak with me in a one on one capacity. - Petra
