Pros

1. Cost of living for San Antonio is cheap

Cons

I moved to San Antonio for the job and was laid off 7 months later. I was a top performer in sales. That should say it all. Due to “restructuring” my entire team (and part of the department) was laid off. I was pretty grossly underpaid, but again, San Antonio is cheap so they leverage that you will make slightly more than the city. After picking up a “filler” job to have tide me over for the job hunt, I was recruited for a top tech firm making 3x what I made at Rackspace. The moral of the story - underpaid, overworked, made to make commitments that they don’t keep

Pros

Rackspace has been remarkably positive during the Covid 19 debacle. Very good vacation plan. Respectable low level managers.

Cons

Fanatical support has been replaced by outsourced technically inept nobodies. Cost savings at all costs. Flash over substance. Look good over being good. Bluntly, we've been taken over by ruthless people on the other side of the planet. Their only goal is to make money by cashing in Rackspace's previously good name. Check out the fancy buzzword bingo happening in the recent positive reviews. Real people talk like that. Seriously. Stop laughing.

Pros

- Some good people, although good people can be found anywhere if you look hard enough. - Used to have a good culture. - Flexibility. - Open stack was a genuinely good attempt to open source cloud hosting. It failed.

Cons

- Company culture is gone. The only "values" left are cost cutting and paying back the "Apollo" private equity overlords. - Company is in severe cost cutting mode. Don't expect funding for raises, promotions, headcount in your department. - New management is cut throat. Outsources core engineering talent - No chance for promotion or pay raises.
