Pros

Learning opportunities Challenged at all times Frontline Rackers are like family People truly care, especially our VP of support, genuine, authentic leader

Cons

Substance over flash is no longer a thing - Flash without substance is rewarded We have too much leadership and not enough technical rackers to help our customers. Too many C-Level, C-Level rarely visits frontline. Huge disconnect from C-Level to frontline support C-Level is not hungry, they’ve made their millions, not engaged or motivating. C-Level has zero empathy or solutions to the challenges frontline Rackers face each day. C-Level does not address questions when recently asked, “Why so many leaders and not enough engineers to support our customers?” This was asked in a recent town hall, it was not addressed as it was found insulting to the leaders. Leaders in frontline support are often self serving and not truly interested in the success or happiness of their employees.

Pros

At its peak, under the great leadership of Graham Weston, Lew Mormon and Lanham Napier, Rackspace was a hotbed of talent. It was an inspiring mission that valued service, from customer service to servant leadership, above all else. I am still proud of the accomplishments we made in tech, in service and Racker growth.

Cons

It fell apart. The assets of tenured employees were liabilities to any future sale. Hundreds of us were let go, pushed out the door, when the company and the customers needed us most. Gone were the days of "Fanatical Support", the legends of 16 hour conference calls involving ordering pizzas for the struggling client. Today is quantitative, not qualitative that counts. The NPS scores show this to be true. In our prime, if we dipped below an NPS of 50, it would be "all hands on deck". Today, they would dream of achieving that standard of service.

Pros

- Fantastic people (team members) - Great internal collaboration (e.g., between team members/segment) - Flexible scheduling and ability to work from home if needed

Cons

- Company seems to have lost vision (e.g, becoming a reseller for other hosting providers) - Mountains and mountains of technical debt--It's grown so quickly, that it favored growth over setting up a solid foundation - Management seems to be in it for themselves, and team members often suffer due to the upper level politics - As the company's grown, entrenched silos seem to be emerging
