Pros

Location, normal salary, you can survive.

Cons

At the lower level , you are just a worker which would be used up by your employer. if you really care about your work, you will end up hating yourself or your environment, they put a non educated person responsible for a very high educated crowd because he was the most corporate washed of all. They spent 45-50 million dollars on a plant in canada without going through the financial studies good enough before committing to this investment, hence the plant worked for 2 years and they wasted time off many professionals just to close down the plant after two years. The moral was so low at this place specially at mid level management. you could not trust your mid level manager with a piece of information about your life , only in one day the general manager would know about it.

Pros

Stable job, decent wages, nice people, good location, many trades you can learn if you know the right people.

Cons

The air quality isn't the best because of the material you deal with. Shifts change a lot. Jobs in the yard can change. A lot of things can mysteriously disappear if you don't watch your things.

Pros

Great pay, decent benefits, fair amount of paid holidays and time off.

Cons

The minute the market crashes they lay off as many people as they can. Then they continue to pile the laid off employees duties on to those still employed - over and over and over. One person is suddenly now equivalent to two or three. This creates a highly stressful and depressing workplace. Not to mention the regional director likes to thinks that lies he tells will you keep you satisfied, talking to everyone as if it is all a temporary hiccup. Even when the market returns they never let you rehire new employees. Why should they, now they can pay less and overwork the existing employees. I loved working for Schnitzer, and, thought I would retire with them. After six years I couldn't be more disappointed with the poor management on almost every level of the SW region. If you are related to upper management or long time buddies you are secure no matter how terrible of a person or employee you may be.
