Pros

The benefits and shopping discount are good and competitive. I have many many talented people who are not utilized properly for their skills.

Cons

The salaries for designers are not competitive and the longer you are there, the less you make. They rather pay more for people outside the company rather than promote the employees they have.

Pros

Very competitive salaries within the Digital team. Most people are relatively friendly and smart. Looks fantastic on a resume. Inspiring brand heritage. Great 50% discount at RL and CM - with many larger discount opportunities through the year. Early access to all of the sample sales. Easy to fly under the radar, if that’s what you’re looking for. Nice emphasis on volunteering and giving back.

Cons

The Digital team is a mess. Well over 150 people have left within the past 18 months. It is far too VP heavy, and none of them can get along amongst themselves, which translates into a hostile and competitive atmosphere - think 60% Cruel Intentions, 40% Mean Girls. Just about everyone within digital is miserable, even those who have started within the past 6 months. New hires start out as nice, optimistic and easy-going, but are transformed into defensive, miserable creatures within a matter of months. Culture throughout RL favors pretty boys. Zero respect for ecommerce and digital throughout the larger RL organization.

Pros

Brand caché. Everyone has heard of it - reads great on the resumé. Lots of history to work with. Some really talented coworkers, and a broad network of ex-coworkers throughout the city as a result. Opportunity to shift role/department if you find the right advocates. Promoted 3x in 5.5 years. Full 401K plan match. Retention stock bonuses possible.

Cons

Slow to adapt to new ideas, processes, technology. Year-end bonuses range from 1-3%, if you get one at all. Hangers-on from the good ole days dragged down the company, wasted time and money (decorated their apartments on corporate CCs, etc.) Ultimately, this lead to several rounds of brutal layoffs that still continued after I left (of my own accord). Truly devastating to sit through. Lots of young talent asked to leave the company in the interest of keeping nonproductive executives. The continued involvement of the family in the company is questionable, especially in the marketing department. Again, a lot of time and money is wasted on egos and self-referential ideas. Nothing truly innovative. Very much a "boys club" in the creative teams (advertising, web) and especially the editorial team.
