Pros

It was very easy to get behind the product we were selling because it does change lives. I had the opportunity to work on a fantastic team with really good people. There was a descent work/life balance outside of our busy seasons. Fun atmosphere to work in. I was given a lot of opportunity and freedom to grow in my role that eventually caused me to become really good at what I did.

Cons

The health benefits were terrible. The pay was low compared to the responsibilities for the role I was in (especially towards the end). Accounting practices with your paycheck were a little shady (For instance, if you had profit sharing as part of your pay, you cannot distinguish what was your base and what was your profit sharing. They would tell you your pay with profit share per year will be around "$XX,XXX.XX." They never specifically talked about the base pay of the salary because it was so low. They never tell you what your profit sharing percentage is as it changed year over year, so you could not distinguish between types of pay.). Dave was great to talk to on a one-on-one basis, but was really eccentric when addressing the company as a whole (He tended to go off on hour long tangents that seemed out of left field.).

Pros

I met amazing lifelong friends while I was there. That’s about it.

Cons

I know people talk about it lightly, but this place is actually a cult and I didn’t see it because of how roped in I was. It’s really hard to see it while you’re there because there is so much talk about your Ramsey family, and how you should be completely loyal to the company. They make you believe you are a part of something special, when in reality you end up way overworked, exhausted and push yourself past what’s normal because you are forced into believing it’s for the greater good. You are constantly told stories about how Ramsey “takes care of their own” while also hearing “if you don’t like it here then don’t let the door hit you on the way out” in the same sentence. Their business practices are absolutely questionable and there were so many times I didn’t feel comfortable with the job I was asked to do, but if I spoke up at all I was labeled as someone who isn’t a team player. I didn’t fully understand how scarred and manipulated I was until after I left, which means I wasted years of my life living in extreme anxiety and fear. I was afraid to speak up at my new job, terrified I would get fired over a mistake, so worried I wasn’t pushing hard enough or if I expressed my concerns I would be shunned. I had to “detox” from a seriously unhealthy work environment. So don’t walk, RUN far far away.

Pros

The company produces high quality software. There are opportunities to learn and grow in the craft of engineering. The facilities are nice and the food is good. There are a lot of smart people to learn from.

Cons

Low pay. Cult-like environment. Leadership is manipulative in all the worst ways: emotional and spiritual. Promotion criteria is bizarre and relates to how good you make everyone feel (popularity contest) rather than your performance as a professional. Flakey, unreliable leadership. The job is not actually what is advertised. There is no truth in this place (moral relativism) there is only what the company says. No remote work allowed except when it's granted to your peers. Success is kissing up to the right people, not actually doing your job well. Not a good place to work but possibly an okay place to use as a stepping stone to a better company, if you're desperate. Best career opportunities are from walking out the door.
