Pros

Most of the people at Real are nice people and many employees in the company are talented. So I would say co-workers are the best reason to work for Real. Real also has a good attitude about life/work balance and time off.

Cons

Real generally underpays by a lot. It is not a well managed company as a whole. Some business units are better managed than others though. The warm and fuzzy face of the corporate culture is deceiving, underneath it's a cutthroat political corporate culture especially at the management level and above. I prefer a REAL friendly place to work personally (pun intended), but I'd rather be in place that was openly cutthroat (like an investment bank or an oil company) so you at least always know where you stand and what to expect.

Pros

At its core, Real is a music company and pretty tolerant of all that goes with that. A lot of the employees are nice and a lot of them are covered with tattoos or weird piercings.

Cons

Product quality sucks. Absolutely sucks. Very little discernible direction to anything. The company and their technology reeks "has been." A number of the top managers are narcissists and just not very bright. It's not fun working for them.

Pros

There are many great people in the trenches who are eminently capable of executing on strategy. The company has a history of developing or acquiring (in the case of Rhapsody and Gamehouse) interesting products and the company is in an interesting space. Perplexingly, the company offers great training programs for employee development, but does an extremely poor job of engaging employees in their new skillsets.

Cons

From RobG on down, the senior leadership clearly does not respect the line managers or individual contributors at the company. The executive leadership is incapable of formulating and sticking with a coherent business or product strategy. company always reacts predictably when times get tough, with everyone but the execs suffering from poor decisions. execs too focused on hitting homers and miss the value of consistent simple performance.
