Pros

There are a lot of very intelligent, competent and friendly people "in the trenches" at Real who take a lot of pride in their work. The constant fire-drills are are also great opportunities to expand skill sets beyond the current job description. These are great for career advancement, just not within the company. Overall, the hours (while many) do have some flexibility and the location in Belltown is great.

Cons

Under-staffing and chaos from upper management lead to a high rate of burnout and turnover. Only 20% of the people I work with have a longer tenure than me and I have been here less than two years. In this same two year period, my group has reorganized 6 times. The under-staffing and chaos also lead to shortcuts to meet deadlines that often result in massive post-release clean-up efforts that require more resources than the initial launch.

Pros

benefits.. can't think of anything else.. good place to start your career.. then it drags. good name to have on resume too to an extent. mid-level and senior management are not the best in terms of communication. interaction between various groups can be a pain in the neck. do a good background check on your future manager, can really decide how miserable your stay at real will be. lacks business ideas or motivation to make user friendly products.. meets revenues solely on the basis of couple of departments and company acquisitions. can't think of more better reasons. but worth the try if you are in seattle.

Cons

senior management or the management in general is used to taking drastic steps to meet revenues. org changes are common at the top recently, for better or worse. not much interaction between various group.

Pros

There are some pockets of good people at Real who are here (or still here) due to their life circumstance (Green Card, new to area, waiting for stock options to vest/profit, etc...).

Cons

Senior management can't decide and stick to a focused strategy long enough for it to play out. Recognition and advancement are not easily tied to individual performance but rather on who you know, what team you are on, what other politics are going on at the time, and other nebulous factors that most people don't know about. I also agree with the other reviewer concerning Jackie Lang. It is also more disheartening once you realize she is one of the very, very few female execs at Real.
