Health insurance expensive. PTO could be better. When asked for a day off was refused due to lack of help.

Pros

Relation has a great culture and a very strong team. The best part about working here is the shared passion for our clients and our teammates.

Cons

Our employee benefits plan for our own team is not competitive in terms of benefits offered and cost. It hurts us during recruiting and we have lost some good people due to the expense alone.

Some good, some bad

Pros

Salespeople are treated well. Executive team is approachable and smart. Many, many good, committed people work here who truly care about customers and work their tail off for them.

Cons

Great place to work if you are reasonably competent male or in sales. Women here tend to work for many years and take on the brunt of the workload and don't get promoted to management very often, unless they are twice as good as everyone else. But if you are male and competent, you will quickly be put in charge of everything! Also, salaries for non-sales service team are below average. Seems like they will withhold a title so they don't' have pay you more. Hiring process is very slow (unless you are in sales). They will take forever to hire someone in general and will wait until a role is totally vacant to fill it. If someone leaves, they often try not to hire a new person.

Relation Insurance Services Response

A response, from our President, Ed Page: Insurance is historically male dominated, but we are dedicated to providing a diverse and inclusive workplace. 25% of our business unit leaders and 30% of our senior team are women. While it's much higher than industry averages, it's still not as good as we want. We have a great track record of promoting from within. For example, Steve Martin, head of Pan American–our largest business unit–has been with us for nearly 35 years, and has never worked anywhere else. Neil Majors who runs our Education and Athletic business has been with us since he left college. Krista Stanek, Senior VP of our Education and Athletic business, has been with us for over 17 years, and was also recently promoted. We’ve been consciously trying to make titles consistent and reflect actual job responsibilities across our business, which is challenging as we are the product of nearly 30 different acquisitions over the last 10 years. We haven’t been withholding titles - only making them consistent and, (hopefully), more fair across the board. We have a very thorough hiring process - much more intensive than you will find in most companies - because we think of our people as our most important asset. When we get it right, it's a huge win and has tremendous impact. Conversely when we get it wrong it has a very negative impact. Our culture is critical to our success and so we make sure we hire the right people. That leads us to have what we think is a tremendously positive culture and makes it a great place to work. We think this culture shows up for our customers, which is why we have industry leading customer retention levels. Please let me know if you'd like to discuss further. Best, Ed
