Pros

Most employees are motivated by the mission and work very hard.

Cons

Remitly stresses cultural values in every aspect of the work but fails in almost every way to live up to them. Culture is like Amazon without the great stock price. Senior leadership is inexperienced and ineffective in every department. I don’t think the reports to the CEO have ever had their job and it shows. There is no such thing as an innocent mistake, everything is scrutinized and small things are blown up out of proportion leading to a fear based environment. The CEO is a nice man, and delegates the difficult work to his team. The Chief counsel can’t keep staff, finance is broken, the head of HR job was open for a long time. The CTO is a poor partner to non engineering teams and is running an engineering team that is burned out. The product teams are run by very junior executives, making poor decisions. The customer service team is constantly in chaos. The culture is toxic. There is no work life balance. The VP level has no authority.

Pros

If you want a true startup experience where you roll up your sleeves and have a big impact, Remitly is the place to be. Smart leadership team, great people, everyone has a ton of responsibility.

Cons

Mostly normal company growing pains, which are easy to deal with. Some concerns around leadership transparency on what's next as we continue to expand internationally. Some senior leadership team members are clearly not scaling with the business which is affecting culture.

Pros

The early stages when the marketing team was a startup were the best days of this company. Empathetic, caring people leading a team of professionals towards objectives. Now, it all went South. Since the IPO, it became clear to me that the company was losing its focus on the core values and mission. The good thing about the company was just that, and now it's just one more remittance entity. The new office is gorgeous and facilities help employees be happy. The pros are the great work they put out and how they used to support DEI a few years ago.

Cons

My experience: They will set you up for failure. If you speak up about it, they call you a complainer. If you stay quiet, you're not passionate enough. Things like that. When you try to go beyond your tasks and act as an owner for the benefit of the brand, you get flagged. It seems they prefer robots to humans. A lot of fake people pretending to care and to know the culture they were not born into. If you speak up about cultural relevance people doubt you. Begging to be believed about your own ethnicity is not the right environment to work in.
