Pros

Flexible schedule if you are not at a client site. All the employee's are permanent unlike a lot of the temp agency type firms. If you get on the right project you can build a lot of experience quickly. Very little corporate bureaucracy.

Cons

Compensation and benefits are poor. It's hard to get on good projects. Unless you come in as a tech lead or project manager it is more a resume building job. High turnover.

Pros

Flexible schedule. Options to try different careers without leaving company. Good fit for generalists and salespeople.

Cons

No training. Poor compensation. Employee turn-over extraordinaire. Benefits are expensive and are even more expensive for 2016. Expertise is not paid correctly in any of the career tracks. More emphasis on billable hours than quality of work. Company reputation not always positive. Career opportunities are tied to you doing sales and becoming an account manager.

Resource Data Response

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback and I apologize for a delayed response. Over the past several years our turnover has been tracking close to industry norms; however, we strive to be the best and are working to improve this. One example of something we started last year was an employee focus group made up of representatives from all branches. They meet monthly with the goal of implementing ideas to enhance and expand the RDI culture, which is core to our employee-oriented business. The group continues to meet in 2016. It is true, we have a small marketing staff; as a consulting firm, we rely on our reputation and referrals to drive new business. Ideally, employees will be engaged in looking for new opportunities, but this is by no means a requirement. If you have gotten that impression, I urge you to talk to your manager and clarify expectations. I also appreciate you bringing up the concerns about compensation and career opportunities. We are constantly working on improving our benefit options and in 2016 rolled out a no-cost health insurance option for employees. Based on feedback from you and other employees, we are doing further research on market salaries and proactively making adjustments. The success of RDI is dependent on the success of our employees and our goal is to provide long-term employment and career development. I urge you to continue talking to your manager and HR about opportunities and ways to continue developing your career at RDI.

Pros

Coworkers are great. Benefits are solid, if expensive. Laid back management, generally. Retained if contract expires.

Cons

Salary is low. Anchorage struggles with retention because Alaska is cold.
